Welcome to the Puppets Festival! Every 1ºESO team is going to participate. Each team is going to create a puppeteer company, so, first of all, create a name for your company.
as an example, you can call yourselves "Picarral's Puppeteers", "Puppets with head", "Chutty Puppets".... or whatever related to our neighbourhood.

CHALLENGE FOR EACH TEAM OF PUPPETEERS
You have to choose an English folk nursery rhyme/song to dramatize it. You can choose one here. The challenge is to create the characters through puppets, creating also the ambience and scenography and representing it, according to the music.
Before learning a bit about puppet making from recycled materials or other materials we can have on hand in the class and before setting up the different types we can do, we want you to have a look to the following examples to get inspired. Observe these ingenious and simple ideas.
TYPES OF PUPPETS
ROD PUPPETS. The movement of the puppet is possible due to its movable limbs and some rods moving them from down.
HAND PUPPET OR GLOVE PUPPET. They are controlled by one hand, which occupies the interior of the puppet.
MAROTTE. It is a puppet whose hands are the puppeteer(s)'s hands.
BODY PUPPET. Different parts of the puppeteer's body are used as character's body.
MARIONETTES OR "STRING PUPPETS. They are suspended by a number of strings, plus sometimes a central rod attached to a control bar held from above by the puppeteer. They are probably the most difficult puppets to build as they require a correct balance and an appropriate distribution of weights to get different movements and an accurate manipulation.
FLAT PUPPET. They are usually figures made by cutting wood, cardboard, tissues and they are manipulated from down with a rod.
STEPS TO FOLLOW
1º. Once you have the lyrics of the song you have to set the different characters you are going to create, the main ones as well as the secondary ones. You have to think about an scenography and ambience to surround the puppets. Every member of the team would take notes and would do sketches on sheets.
2º. You have to decide how to share job. The teacher would correct and check each team's notes before starting building.
3º. In the art classes we have been compiling different materials you can use to develop this challenge: tetra bricks, boxes, cardboards, plastic bottles, caps, yoghourt packaging, etc. You are going to recycle all this objects to create the puppets and the scenography.
We will also provide other specific materials in the art classes, such as poster board, different papers, glue, ropes, etc.

SCENOGRAPHY AND ATMOSPHERE
To recreate an atmosphere with different elements related to the lyrics of the song would help enriching the show you are designing in each team. You can also take part of this scenography.
DELIVERING WORKS
Each team would take pictures of the creation process during the challenge. To finish you have to upload them in Google Classroom and would point out which puppets and parts of the scenography have been done by each member of the team.
Remember planification, registration forms and responsability is a 10% of the mark.
Once we finish the project, we would spend some classes to practise and record the show.
